Sullivan Statement on White House Telecommunication Order

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan, chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Security, today released the following statement on the White House’s executive order authorizing the Department of Commerce to secure America’s information and communications technology supply chain, and placing Chinese manufacturer Huawei on the Bureau of Industry and Security Entity List, intended to inform the public of entities that could present a risk to national security.

“As chairman of the Commerce Security Subcommittee with oversight of 5G supply chain matters, I am deeply concerned about the challenges and potential risks posed by adversarial foreign actors and manufacturers seeking to influence or subvert American telecommunication systems. I think it’s important for the American people to understand this security threat affects both our larger national security interests as well as our everyday personal communication devices which, with 5G technology, will be of even greater importance to our daily lives in the coming years. I applaud the Trump administration’s recent order and hardline stance to protect American infrastructure, and I stand ready to work with all stakeholders toward the implementation of a deliberate, coordinated national 5G strategy.”
