Sullivan Statement on U.S. Navy Freedom of Navigation Operation in South China Sea

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK), a member of the Armed Services Committee, released the following statement today on the U.S. Navy’s recent freedom of navigation operation in the South China Sea:

‎"I am encouraged by reports of a second recent U.S. freedom of navigation operation in the South China Sea, an area that is home to some of the busiest transit routes in the world.  Freedom of navigation and the U.S. operations that safeguard it are vital to ensuring the safe and uninhibited passage of ‎global commerce. The importance of these operations – and men and women who conduct them – cannot be understated.  I am hopeful that we will soon do these operations with our allies and, one day, they will become so commonplace that they no longer make news and they no longer require hearings and letters from the Senate Armed Services Committee."
