Sullivan Statement on Trump Administration’s DACA Announcement
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) today released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
“The DACA program was enacted without the approval of Congress and very likely exceeded President Obama’s authority under the Constitution. America is a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants. I believe we can remain faithful to both of these critically important ideals.
“Going forward, in addition to securing our border, it is important to keep in mind that the beneficiaries of the DACA program came to our country as children through no fault of their own. Most are hardworking, law-abiding members of our communities, including hundreds in Alaska. I intend to work with Republicans and Democrats to address these particular immigration cases through legislation both with compassion and a respect for the rule of law.”
