Sullivan Statement on Congressman Zinke as Interior Secretary
ANCHORAGE, AK – U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) issued the following statement on President-elect Trump’s intent to nominate Congressman Ryan Zinke (R-MT) to be Secretary of the Department of the Interior.
“I’m pleased to see that President-elect Trump chose someone for Interior Secretary from a Western state who has been a strong advocate for energy independence. I also commend Rep. Zinke’s impressive career as a U.S. Navy Seal.
“I look forward to speaking with Rep. Zinke about Alaska’s unique land issues – including ANILCA – and how federal government overreach in Alaska has stymied much needed economic and resource development. Additionally, I look forward to discussing the Interior Department’s trust responsibility to Alaska Natives. Finally, I need to have a better understanding of why and to what degree he is against the transfer of certain federal lands to state and private hands. His views on this particular issue are of vital importance to the economy and livelihood of Alaskans due to Alaska’s unique federal, state, and private lands status and laws.”
