Sullivan Keeps Commitment to Military Members & Families as 421 Officers Promoted
WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) released the following statement today after the Senate confirmed more than 400 military officer promotions.
“I’ve been working this issue for months and several weeks ago, Senators Joni Ernst, Lindsey Graham, Todd Young, and I, all veterans and all strongly pro-life, promised our military members and their families that we have their backs,” Senator Sullivan said. “I made a commitment then to the men and women of our military and I keep my commitments.
“While I wish we had resolved this sooner, I’m pleased that at this very dangerous time in our nation’s history, our country will once again have our best and most combat-capable military officers on the field.
“My intense focus on this issue was driven by the fact that these blanket holds on military officers—who are not policy makers—were doing very serious damage to military readiness and the morale of our troops and their families and these military officers were being punished over a policy dispute they had nothing whatsoever to do with. Going forward, Democrats and Republicans should commit to not using blanket holds on military officers again. Our brave troops and their families deserve nothing less.”
