Murkowski, Sullivan Thank Judge Burgess For Service to Alaska
WASHINGTON.— U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan (both R-Alaska) issued the following statements after Judge Timothy Burgess announced his upcoming retirement from active service as a United States Judge for the District of Alaska, effective December 31, 2021. Judge Burgess has been chief judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska since 2015 and joined the court in 2006 after being nominated by then President George W. Bush.
“Alaska has been fortunate to have Judge Timothy Burgess sitting on the bench for the last fifteen years. He is an honorable man and jurist who has served Alaska well—hearing nearly all categories of federal cases. I thank Judge Burgess for his service to Alaska and the nation and wish him well in his upcoming transition to senior status,” said Senator Murkowski. “These will be big shoes to fill—but this now begins the process for filling this important vacancy.”
“For the past fifteen years, Judge Timothy Burgess has served Alaska as a federal judge honorably,”said Senator Sullivan. “He has been fair and served with distinction. He’s also shown the utmost respect for all people in his courtroom. We thank him for his service and wish him, his wife Joanne Grace and their children, all the best. He will be missed.”
