ICYMI: Sullivan Attends White House Launch of Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative
WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, U.S. Dan Senator Sullivan (R-AK) attended the launch of the Trump administration’s Women’s Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative at the White House. The W-GDP Initiative, led by Ivanka Trump, is the first-ever whole-of-government approach focused on advancing women’s full and free participation in the global economy.
“We know that when women are empowered to participate in the economic futures of their home countries, stability and prosperity invariably follow,” said Senator Sullivan. “It was an honor to join Ivanka Trump and other members of the administration for a roundtable discussion regarding this exciting effort to equip women with the tools to lead and innovate in developing nations.”
BACKGROUND:
W-GDP seeks to reach 50 million women in the developing world by 2025 through U.S. government activities, private-public partnerships, and a new, innovative fund at USAID. The W-GDP Initiative focuses on three pillars:
- Helping women to prosper in the workforce by improving women’s access to quality education and skills training;
- Continuing efforts to fund and support women’s entrepreneurship and access to capital, markets, technical assistance, and mentorship; and
- Working to identify and reduce the policy, legal, and regulatory barriers to women’s participation in the global economy, and promote improved practices.
